For the small amount it cost, one of the best thing you can do before you go on holiday is check out what insurance you will need.

Even if you think you"re going away to lay on a beach or sit by a pool or going away with friends to a private party.  You never know what might happen and that small amount you paid at the beginning can be a life saver for the amount you might have to pay if something goes wrong.  Not often something drastic happens but lets look at it this way.  You might lose your camera or those expensive sunglasses might get sat on, not to mention misplacing a wedding ring or jewellery.  It's much cheaper getting it back on insurance than having to buy it all outright again. 

If you do fall ill or maybe break an arm or leg while hiking.  well we all know if you have to get special help to get to a doctor or even a helicopter to safety the cost could be phenomenal in another country.  

I know people some times say look we're not even going to be away long.  A good rule of thumb is don't go anywhere out of the country unless you have insurance, it could change your whole future just for wanting to get away and have some well deserved fun with friends or family.   Keep it in mind and treat yourself like you matter.  Others depend on you as well....
